What is autism?
- Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is simply a general term for a set of complex disorders of brain development.
- The disorder shows a wide range of symptoms. Children with ASD can be VERY different from one another
- Some symptoms of Autism include difficulties in social interaction, verbal and nonverbal communication, repetitive behaviors and reacting to the world around them.
- These symptoms may also include intellectual disability, difficulties in motor coordination, attention, physical health issues such as sleep & gastrointestinal disturbances.
- Some individuals with ASD greatly excel in visual skills, music, math and art
- Most obvious signs of autism and symptoms of autism tend to emerge between 2 and 3 years of age.
